Kate has championed the economic and social value of cultural heritage at home and abroad. At The Heritage Alliance 2003-16, she achieved unprecedented recognition for the independent heritage movement’s scope and scale. Now, as Chairman of the Advisory Group for the Government’s Cultural Protection Fund and in other roles for UNESCO UK and British Council, she is applying that focus more internationally. She recently wrote The Heritage Alliance’s first ever International Report. At European level, she took part in Europa Nostra’s Steering Group to produce Cultural Heritage Counts for Europe 2015. Reflecting a 2 year stint teaching English in Afghanistan, she is Secretary of the new Afghanistan Society which aims to tell a positive story of the country through its cultural richness. This international experience gives her a unique overview of how the UK heritage sector contributes to Britain’s global profile, an area of rapidly growing interest to Government and others.
