Philip Attwood has been Keeper of the British Museum’s Department of Coins and Medals since 2010. He is editor of The Medal. He has been Secretary and President of the British Art Medal, and is now a Vice President. He is President of the Fédération Internationale de la Médaille d’Art (FIDEM), and is an Honorary Member of the Royal Belgian Numismatic Society. From 1996 he has also been Honorary Curator of Medals of the Worshipful Company of Cutlers. He has lectured widely on commemorative medals and related subjects in this country and abroad. He has also written many books and articles on commemorative medals and other subjects, in particular Italian medals, c.1530-1600, in British public collections (2003), and Hard at work. The diary of Leonard Wyon 1853-1867 2014). His exhibitions include the BM travelling exhibition Artistic Circles: the medal in Britain 1880-1918, and Medals of Dishonour (BM, 2009; St Petersburg, 2011-12).
