Currently Chairman of the Editorial Board of Essex Journal and Vice-Chairman of the Essex Industrial Archaeology Group. Chairman and Secretary (1983-98) of the Halstead and District Local History Group and Patron since 1998. Member of The Association for Industrial Archaeology and the British Brick Society. Has published extensively on Industrial Archaeology (especially brickmaking and the textile industry) and the Essex parishes of Halstead, Great and Little Yeldham and Sible Hedingham.
