Professor of English specialising in the Romantic period but also giving courses on the English Bible as Literature, John Milton, British and American Literature of the 18th and 19th Centuries (esp. Wordsworth, Coleridge, Austen, Tennyson, Whitman), History of the Book, Bibliography, Transatlantic Intellectual History 1790-1870.Publications include John Kemble’s Gibraltar Journal: The Spanish Expedition of the Cambridge Apostles, 1830-1831.2015; The Life and Letters of John Sterling. In preparation. The Early Cambridge Apostles: New Sources for Study. 4 vols: forthcoming; numerous articles in learned journals. Member of the Grolier Club and many learned and bibliographical societies.Has been a Visiting Fellow at Clare Hall, Cambridge, and at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, Edinburgh. Elected to the Senate of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, 2015-21. He is also a convivial man who will be and active member of our Society and be willing to serve on committees.
