Dr R. Helen Farr is an expert in maritime archaeology, specifically prehistoric seafaring and submerged landscapes. In 2017 she was awarded an ERC starting grant to investigate the early human colonization of Australasia, heading up a multidisciplinary team of archaeologists, geneticists, oceanographers and geologists to explore the data from a variety of angles. Helen has published on prehistoric seafaring, island colonisation, navigation and connectivity in prehistory. In addition, Helen has been core to work on the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project, generating new data on the submerged archaeology of the Bulgarian continental shelf, as well as leading an educational outreach programme. Dr Farr is on the editorial board for the Journal of Maritime Archaeology and regularly presents at international conferences.
