Grounds for election
Dr Jago Cooper is a distinguished archaeologist and museum curator, who specialises in the Precolumbian archaeology of the Americas. Following his degrees at the UCL Institute of Archaeology he taught at the University of Leicester, before becoming Curator of the Americas at the British Museum. Through his research projects, in collaboration with Latin American colleagues, he has advanced scholarly understanding of the indigenous cultures of the Americas, and in particular the historic effects of climate change on human development. He has disseminated his work through numerous academic articles and books (e.g. Cooper, J. & Sheets, P. (eds). 2012 Surviving Sudden Environmental Change: Answers from Archaeology), public exhibitions and digital outputs from the British Museum, and has presented several well-received BBC TV documentaries on the archaeology of the Americas.
