Grounds for election

Svante has worked in many countries with the transformation from Late Antiquity into the Early Medieval period. He has always favored a comparative approach in research, often involving France, Italy and Scandinavia. His research spans over diverse fields such as Gallo-Roman urban architecture, Early Byzantine numismatics, Anglo-Saxon ring swords and Viking Age runology. He has been very active in the international research community, participating in and organising conferences and workshops for over two decades. While at the Musée d’Archéologie Nationale, he trained French archaeology students to become part of this international network. Fischer’s research has been recognised with several awards and prizes from two Royal Swedish Academies and the Collège de France. Fischer was 2014-2015 research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies at Nantes.
