Grounds for election

Chairman of the Antiquarian Horological Society (AHS) and founder of Clockworks, the London museum of electrical horology, Dr Nye’s recent work has included a definitive history of the celebrated firm of instrument and watch & clockmakers, Smiths (A Long Time in Making; a History of Smiths, OUP 2014) as well as a number of articles for historical journals on the business of horology, including the British Journal for the History of Science. A recognised authority on the international history of electrical timekeeping and the subject of time distribution, he has edited a number of important new books published by the AHS and has presented many ground-breaking papers on horological business history at conferences at home and abroad. The Society for the History of Technology awarded him their IEEE Members Prize for the History of Technology in 2009.
