Grounds for election
Tom Addyman is a buildings archaeologist and consultant who has worked in Britain, Ireland, India, America and the Caribbean. He has led building studies of Scottish castles including Brodrick on Arran), Craigievar, Doune and Mingary; also building and landscape archaeology studies at Dumfries House (Ayr), Pitmedden, Paisley Abbey, and Queensbury House and St Giles Cathedral (Edinburgh). His Old College Quadrangle work revealed the original University of Edinburgh buildings, including deposits from its 18th century laboratories, and the cemetery of Kirk o’Fields. At Kirk Ness, North Berwick, he documented a sequence, mainly ecclesiastical, of some nine centuries. In India he has recorded the Scottish Cemetery in Calcutta and investigated Ranjit Singh’s Gobindgarh Fort at Amritsar. His publications include reports on Queensbury House, Kirk Ness and Gobingarh Fort, also short notes on many excavations and building surveys to complement the full project reports.
