Noel Adams received her PhD from University College London in 1991 for her thesis Late Antique, Migration Period and Early Byzantine Garnet Cloisonné Ornaments. Since then she has worked at The British Museum Dept Prehistory and Europe and as an Independent Scholar, and since 2005 has been Deputy Curator of the Furusiyya Art Foundation. She has published extensively on the art history, contexts and technology of early medieval garnet jewellery, and more widely on broader aspects of early medieval archaeology and early modern material culture, and has curated recent major exhibitions at The Morgan Museum and Library, New York, and L’Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris. Her monographs include Bright Lights in the Dark Ages: Early Medieval Ornaments in the Thaw Collection (New York, in press) and ‘Gems of Heaven’: Recent Research on Engraved Gemstones in Late Antiquity, AD 200-600 (London, 2011, co-edited with C Entwhistle).
