Grounds for election

Dr Shepperson is Research Associate at the University of Liverpool, jointly in the Department of Archaeology and the School of Architecture. She also acts as Senior Archaeologist at Charax Spasinou, Basra, on a 3 year survey for the UK Cultural Protection Fund, specifically recording the impact on the city and ramparts of its use as a military base in the 1980s Iraq-Iran War for input to a Heritage Management Plan for the local antiquities service. She has very substantial experience in excavation in Egypt and Mesopotamia (north and south Iraq), Turkey, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Georgia and the UK. She was the contracted archaeology blogger for The Guardian for its ‘The Past and the Curious’ series 2016-7, and her first book (Sunlight and Shade in the First Cities: a sensory archaeology of early Iraq) was published in 2017. She has six further contributions to edited volumes and periodicals.
