Grounds for election
Spencer is an experienced freelance commercial/community archaeologist and lithics specialist. As chair of the Teesside Archaeological Society he turned around the group’s fortunes, increasing membership, extending the society’s demographic profile, and harnessing web and social-media communication. He has been a trustee and hon editor for CBA Yorkshire, and led community projects in NE England promoting a sense of place, well-being and volunteer involvement, education and conservation. Ongoing projects include ICE & FIRE, a rescue venture targeting anti-social behaviour, arson and damage to the archaeological/natural environments on the Eston Hills, Teesside. Success is reflected in cross-agency coordination, as well as significant crime reduction. REAPING TIME is a rural project in East Cleveland which, having completed an exciting 2018 pilot field evaluation, aims to engage local villages in outdoor and indoor activities, training and events related to their pre-industrial past.
