Grounds for election

Michael de Bootman is a leading part-time archaeologist and former archaeological book publisher. He has made a considerable contribution to the archaeology of Norfolk, where he has undertaken fieldwork since the 1980s. He has completed a series of major geophysical surveys of Roman, Medieval and Post-medieval sites in West Norfolk, particularly in the Nar Valley, contributing a substantial amount of information to the Norfolk HER. This includes work on the gardens and surrounds of Raynham Hall, as well as on key sites at Raynham, the Grimston villa and Great Massingham. He took a leading role in the re-exploration of the Roman Villa at Gayton Thorpe (on which he has published in Norfolk Archaeology), and is currently working on a major publication on the Roman pottery industries of the Nar Valley.
