Andrew is a distinguished scholarly conservator with responsibilities for major projects, research, and teaching within and outside the University of Oxford. He has just completed a complex conservation treatment and rebinding of the Winchester Bible which included the collaborative involvement of visiting scholars to study new evidence made available during the conservation process. Other work has centred on the treatment of a wide variety of often highly important manuscripts. Andrew has worked in partnership with many institutions including the Library of the monastery of St Catherine, Sinai, where he undertook complex conservation work on two major manuscripts. His research interests bridge the material aspects of rare books, such as their parchment, paper, binding and repair history, and he has lectured and published widely on these subjects. He regularly teaches in Oxford’s English Faculty on aspects of material culture.
