Grounds for election

Dr Langlands is an established writer, broadcaster and academic with a special interest in the human exploitation of natural resources, particularly in the early middle ages, but also into recent times. He is widely known for his broadcasting and popular publishing, particularly the hugely successful series Victorian Farm and Wartime Farm. He has been a presenter of numerous archaeological and historical tv programmes including Time Team. He has produced a distinctive body of academic publications concerned with the landscape archaeology of Wessex in the early middle ages and he is a strong promoter of interdisciplinary approaches to the study of the past. He is Patron of the Heritage Crafts Association,and Vice-President of the Southern Counties Heavy Horse Association. He has received a series of prizes and awards for many aspects of his work. He is currently co-directing fieldwork Old Sarum, for which he has received funding from the Society.
