Grounds for election

Andrew spent his working life in industry, but his leisure time has been dominated by research and publication on Worcestershire subjects. He was heavily involved in the development of the Avoncroft Museum of Buildings at Bromsgrove in the early 1970s. He was a founder member of the Hereford & Worcester Architectural Record Group, serving as its honorary secretary for many years and developing a valuable countywide resource of field records. His research interests then turned to investigating the architectural, political and social histories of Worcestershire’s great houses and their estates. He has published highly acclaimed studies of the Vernons of Hanbury and the Pakingtons of Westwood. He has worked tirelessly in making archival resources more widely available by transcribing and publishing parish records as well as being instrumental in progressing the Worcestershire Wills Project to recatalogue, conserve and digitise this important collection in the county archives.
