Grounds for election
Kerby-Fulton, an endowed chair (emerita) at University of Notre Dame and Fellow of the Medieval Academy of America, is an internationally-recognized expert in Medieval literature, intellectual history, and manuscript studies in England and Anglo-Ireland, especially reading practices and text-image relations. Reformist Apocalypticism and Piers Plowman (Cambridge, 1990), tracing Insular manuscript transmission of radical European Latin exegesis, won the John Nicholas Brown Prize from Medieval Academy; Iconography and the Professional Reader with Denise Despres (Minnesota, 1999) examined scribe-illustrators; Books Under Suspicion: Censorship and Tolerance of Revelatory Writing in Late Medieval England (Notre Dame, 2006), on suppressed Latin manuscripts, won the Haskins Gold Medal from the Medieval Academy; and Opening Up Medieval English Manuscripts: Literary and Visual Approaches, with M. Hilmo and L. Olson (Cornell, 2012), won the 2013 Choice Award from the American Library Association.
