Grounds for election

James Conolly’s interests lie at the intersection of archaeology and geography, and he integrates approaches from both disciplines in his research and teaching. He was Lecturer in Archaeology at UCL’s Institute of Archaeology (1999-2004) and his initial work focused on economic organization in European Neolithic and BA societies, along with the application of geospatial methods of analysis in settlement pattern studies. In 2004 he moved to Trent University (Canada) as Canada Research Chair in Archaeology, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2014. He now conducts research mainly in the territories of the Michi Saagig Anishinaabeg on the archaeology of complex hunter-gatherer and early agricultural communities. He directs field research and community-based training programs in cooperation with local Indigenous nations. He is an editor for World Archaeology, director of the Ontario Archaeological Soc, member of the Canadian Archaeological Association & the Ontario Marine Heritage Soc.
