Grounds for election
I am delighted to propose the nomination of Dr. Charlotte Bolland, Senior Curator for Research and 16th C. Collections at the National Portrait Gallery. Dr. Bolland’s 2012 PhD thesis, Italian Material Culture at the Tudor Court, earned her an AHRC doctorate awarded by Queen Mary University and the Royal Collection. She came to the NPG via internships at The Wallace Collection, The Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Royal Collection. She has been Project Curator of the Leverhulme-funded Making Art in Tudor Britain project (NPG, 2011-14), and co-curator of The Real Tudors, (NPG, 2014), Les Tudors (Musée de Luxembourg, 2015) and The Encounter, Drawings from Leonardo to Rembrandt (NPG, 2017). Dr. Bolland’s research includes co-editing the catalogues for the above exhibits plus essays in such publications as The Burlington Magazine and The Proceedings of the Harlaxton Symposium. Charlotte Bolland is rapidly becoming one of our foremost authorities on 16th C. English painting.
