Grounds for election

After 33 years in the National Trust Francesca Scoones has been instrumental in transforming the Trust’s curatorial and academic standards, both by coordinating aspects of her colleagues’ work throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and by her research and other initiatives. This includes compiling a topographical index of historic images of National Trust properties, extracted from numerous libraries and record offices; commissioning a comprehensive photographic survey of the Trust’s historic buildings (some 130,000 photographs, now largely digitized and publicly accessible); organizing seminars for curatorial colleagues on a wide variety of topics related to the history and presentation of country houses; collaborating in writing guidebooks and several other publications. She has also greatly enhanced the collections by cultivating potential donors of items targeted at specific houses, a role for which her intimate knowledge of the Trust’s properties made her uniquely suited.
