Grounds for election
Angus Haldane is a scholar-dealer and the author of a number of distinguished books and exhibition catalogues, notably The Face of War: Portrait of the English Civil Wars (2017); Victor Popov (1932–1974) Genius of the Russian Soul (Somerset House 2014); The Legacy of World War II in Russian Art (Saatchi Gallery 2015); and Art Russe Collections of 20th-century Russian and Soviet Art: War and Peace (Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi, 2015); and several articles including a pioneering study of portraits by the Civil War artist Robert Walker (1599–1658). He is fluent in French, Italian and Russian and has recently delivered a series of lectures in the USA for the Royal Oak Foundation on Civil War portraits. His series The Face of War is to be continued with a book on portraits of the American Revolutionary War.
