B.A., M.A., Ph.D.

Assistant Professor of Art History
Grounds for election
Mr. Elkins, who served as my postgraduate and then postdoctoral associate at Yale University, has emerged as one of the most productive young scholars in his field, Roman numismatics; and more than that, he has striven to make the study of coins relevant to larger questions of history and art history. He is the author of two well-reviewed books and has a third in preparation, and has co-edited two books of studies, with an Oxford Handbook (of Imagery and Iconography) in preparation. He also has a long string of articles and reviews going back to 2004. His standing in the profession is abundantly indicated by his promotion to Associate Professor (with tenure) at Baylor, and his appointment there as Director of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Achievement. He is also Editor (Ancient World) for the American Journal of Numismatics. Elkins strikes me as worthy in every way of election to Fellowship in the Society of Antiquaries.
