Martin Pel is an historian and curator at The Royal Pavilion & Museums, Brighton and studied art history at the University of Manchester and the Courtauld Institute of Art. His specialist subject is fashion history with a special interest in men’s dress from 1500 to 1800. He has curated 10 exhibitions: Vanity Fair (2008) An Image of Itself (2009) Dress for Excess: George IV and Regency Fashion (2011) Biba and Beyond: Barbara Hulanicki (2012) Fashion and the Flag (2012) Subversive Design (2013) Fashion Cities Africa (2015 to present) Gluck: Art & Identity (2016) Queer Looks (2018) Stephen Jones Hats at the Royal Pavilion (2019). Martin Pel is the author of The Biba Years 1963 – 1975 (2014), Jazz Age Fashion (2016), Gluck: Art & Identity (2017) and has contributed to London Couture (2015) Handbags; The Making of a Museum(2012). Martin Pel is a cultivated individual of the highest integrity who has much to offer and is keen to be an active member in the Society of Antiquaries.
