Grounds for election
Matt Thompson is a heritage professional with a broad range of experience in museums and archaeology. In his current post he is responsible for the management of, and setting the direction of research into, the diverse collections relating to the more than 400 sites held by English Heritage Trust. He has held posts at major museums, including Director of Collections and Learning at Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust and Volunteering Manager (among other posts) at National Railway Museum, York. His primary research has been into areas of railway heritage, an interest that is reflected in his most recent publication, relating to an exhibition held at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust in 2015, on 'The Picturesque Railway. The lithographs of John Cooke Bourne'. He is currently Reviews Editor for the journal Historic Environment Policy & Practice and works with Arts Council England on supporting museums and collections at risk.
