Andrew Viduka has worked in maritime archaeology since 1998 and has been the Assistant Director of Maritime and Commonwealth Heritage, Department of the Environment and Energy (Australian Government) since 2007. He is Australia’s Senior Commonwealth Practitioner (maritime archaeologist), an expert member of ICOMOS-ICUCH (International Committee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage) and was the Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau member (2013-2019). In 2016, he was the co-Chair for the 6th International Congress on Underwater Archaeology (IKUWA) in Western Australia. Andrew is a co-founder of the not-for-profit maritime archaeology research group Wreck Check Inc. and founder of GIRT Scientific Diver, a citizen science programme which encourages community participation in maritime cultural heritage. He has conducted archaeological survey and excavations in Australia as well as overseas across a wide range of archaeological sites and has published on different aspects of maritime archaeology.
