Val Bott began her museum career at Vestry House Museum in Walthamstow, set up new local history museums in the London Boroughs of Brent and Wandsworth and was curator to the Fairground Heritage Trust. From 1996 to 2000 she was Deputy Director of The Museums & Galleries Commission. As a heritage consultant projects have included creating a museum for Havering, working with Royal Mail to set up the Postal Heritage Trust, devising a History Room for the Bookham Grange Centre for Disabilities and advising Berry Brothers & Rudd on their historic collections and archives. She was awarded the MBE for services to the heritage after co-ordinating the refurbishment of Hogarth's House in Chiswick. She is now working on The Mulberry Garden at the House, building a learning studio for events and classes and creating "an exhibition garden" with painting and features from the 1670s to the present. She has published extensively notably in the British Art Journal on Hogarth's House and its Studio.
