Grounds for election
Charles Kightly has made an outstanding contribution to research in the fields of British history and the built environment. Following a term as Research Author at the History of Parliament Trust (1971-77), he has worked continuously as an author, editor, exhibition adviser and textwriter, and a consultant on historical tourism. Since 1992 he has specialised in the restoration and recreation of historic interiors and furnishings, especially of the late Medieval and Early Modern periods, including Tretower Court, Powys and Walraversijde Medieval Village, Raversijde, Ostend, Belgium. His many publications include Strongholds of the Realm (1977), ‘Living Rooms’: Interior Decoration in Wales 400-1960 (2005), over 40 church guidebooks, and several books and guides for CADW and English Heritage. His extensive voluntary work on heritage bodies includes serving on the Lincolnshire Old Churches Trust (Secretary, 1989-92) and the Historic Buildings Advisory Council for Wales (Member, 2004-10).
