He is a Director of the Wuffing Education Study-day Partnership at Sutton Hoo (since 2002 ; see www.wuffings.co.uk for more details) and is an authority on Beowulf (the subject of his doctorate and his book 'The Origins of Beowulf and the pre-Viking Kingdom of East Anglia' (DS Brewer 1993, reprinted 1994, 1999 & 2018). He has also published 'The Reckoning of King Raedwald'((Redbird press 2003, 2009). He frequently appeared on 'Time Team' and other TV programmes as a specialist in Anglo-Saxon and Viking history and culture, and for his mastery in speaking the Anglo-Saxon language. He has also presented papers at numerous conferences, both here and abroad. In addition to his current tutoring work at Sutton Hoo he is also working on a three-way annotated edition and translation of Beowulf.
