Grounds for election
Mads Kähler Holst is Director of Moesgaard Museum, Denmark, President of the Danish Academy in Rome and Honorary Professor at Aarhus University. His research is centred on archaeological methods and the Bronze Age to Early Medieval in Southern Scandinavia. He has led large-scale research projects on the Bronze Age burial mound tradition and the village organization of Northwestern Europe in the Iron Age. In recent years, he has directed the 2008-14 investigations of the UNESCO World Heritage Viking monuments and royal residence complex at Jelling, Southern Jutland, as well as the 2009-14 investigations of the lake deposition of the extensive human remains of a 1st century AD defeated army at Alken Enge, Central Jutland. He has published widely on these topics. Since 2008 he has played a central role in the development of Danish digital heritage organization and since 2013 also Danish maritime archaeology including the investigation of underwater Stone Age sites.
