Edward Copisarow has created one of the world’s most serious collections of historic English indoor games, including playing cards, books and original boards/artefacts. He has advanced the study of the subject through publications in specialist journals, and regular participation in international colloquia. As a resident of Shardeloes, near Amersham, he has undertaken extensive research into this important house, the first house commission from Robert Adam, and he is involved in numerous local historical societies (e.g. Buckinghamshire Archaeological Society, Amersham Museum). He is a liveryman of the Company of Makers of Playing Cards and has been active in developing a heritage grant-making programme there. He has helped to create the Society’s tour for visually impaired people, working with Kate Bagnall and Danielle Wilson-Higgins, and is likely to be helpful in developing an ongoing outreach programme, particularly for the disabled.
