Professor Travaini is a leading authority on (Italian) medieval coinage, with a bibliography of over 270 books and articles. She has catalogued and published coin hoards for the Italian ministery of culture, worked in Cambridge alongside Philip Grierson on the Medieval European Coinage project and since 1998 has been Associate Professor Numismatics, Milan University. She is a member of several editorial boards and scientific committees (Quaderni Ticinesi di Numismatica e Antichità Classiche, Revue Numismatique and Journal of Archaeological Numismatics included) and a member of the International Numismatic Council.
