Dr Mark Douglas took up his role at English Heritage in 2007 leading a national team of Properties Curators and is also directly responsible for advising on the conservation management of over 100 ancient monuments and historic buildings in the north of England. Prior to this he worked in Commercial Archaeology specialising in Buildings Archaeology. His personal research has concentrated on the archaeology of the medieval parish church and was the subject of his doctoral thesis, which looked at the links between collective memory and the architecture of the parish church in late medieval Yorkshire.
