Crispin Paine has had a long career as a museums and heritage consultant, providing strategic and development plans for national and local governmental as well as non-governmental organisations in the UK and abroad. He curated a number of museums for Oxfordshire County Museum Service and served as Director of the Area Museums Service for South Eastern England. He has acted as convenor of MA courses in Museum Studies at the University of Southampton and at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL; he has also provided training courses in Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan, Latvia etc. He is the author of a considerable number of papers on heritage matters and several books, including Sacred Places: Spirit and Landscape (National Trust), Religious Objects in Museums (Bloomsbury) and (with Tim Ambrose) the international textbook Museum Basics.
