Grounds for election

Dr Sulas is a geoarchaeologist specialising in the reconstruction of African archaeological landscapes. She has a diverse portfolio of research in the hinterland of Aksum, on the Swahili coast, at Great Zimbabwe and in Zambia. She has also worked on Mediterranean landscapes. Recently, Dr Sulas was appointed to the position of Research fellow in African Archaeology at the University of Cambridge. This follows from an international career as Assistant Professor at Aarhus University and postdoctoral fellowships at Istituto di Storia dell’Europa Mediterranea CNR, Italy, University of Pretoria, and IMF CSIC, Barcelona, Spain. Her work has transformed the landscape of geoarchaeology in eastern African contexts, setting a new benchmark for the levels of detail and nuance that can be produced and providing a sustained demonstration of the importance of incorporating landscapes into our understandings of the past.
