Grounds for election
Matthew Sillence works on the material culture of late medieval Europe with a particular interest in sigillography, funerary monuments and antiquarianism. He was awarded his Ph.D. by the University of East Anglia (2009) on a thesis entitled ‘The Cardinal’s Seal of Dignity and the Representation of Identities, 1378-1533'. He is an active member of Sigillvm and is a member of their board and since 2011 he has been their web master. He is also active within the Monumental Brass Society, has spoken at their events and in 2015 co-organised their Norwich conference. He is currently the Hon. Technical Editor of their annual journal. Dr Sillence is engaged in the development and integration of digital technologies into research, teaching and publication. He has developed a training programme on digital research for postgraduates which will be of extreme importance for future generations of researchers. Matthew Sillence is committed to the furtherance of higher education and scholarship.
