Grounds for election
Dr Jonathan Berry has worked for Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, since 2002, initially as an information specialist and from 2008 as an Inspector of Ancient Monuments. He now leads the Inspectorate Team for south Wales, where he provides professional advice on planning, archaeological works at guardianship sites and scheduled monument casework. Jon is also the policy lead for transport and archaeology, post-excavation and publication, battlefields, Ministry of Defence Estate, 20th century defensive sites, heritage crime and manages the delivery of the ‘Unloved Heritage’ project, a partnership programme that provides young people with exciting experiences to raise awareness and appreciation of their local historic environment. In 2016, Jon gained his PhD in the research of Second World War anti-invasion defence works and fortifications and, in his spare time, Jon is a trustee and past chair of the Forest of Dean Building Preservation Trust.
