Grounds for election

The Right Revd Dr Stephen Platten has had a distinguished career including as the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Secretary for Ecumenical Affairs, Dean of Norwich, and Diocesan Bishop of Wakefield (2003-14). Among his important service roles are his Chairmanship (2013-20) of Hymns, Ancient and Modern and as a Board Member of the Media Standards Trust (2008-19). He is currently Master of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and a member of Cathedrals’ Fabric Commission for England. Dr Platten is a prolific writer both on theology and, where antiquaries are concerned, on British cathedrals. His many books include Augustine’s Legacy (1997), Pilgrim Guide to Norwich Cathedral (1998), Cathedrals and Abbeys of England (1999), Dreaming Spires: Cathedrals in a New Age (ed., 2006), Holy Ground: Cathedrals in the 21st Century (2017), Borderlands: Exploring Northumberland and the Tweed (2017), and Austen Farrer: Oxford Warden, Scholar, Preacher (ed. 2020).
