Tracy Ireland is Professor of Cultural Heritage and Director of the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research in the Faculty of Arts and Design, University of Canberra where she has established a nationally renowned, industry-linked heritage studies program. She has held leadership roles in government and the private sector. Her research is internationally recognised and has influenced heritage policy and practice in Australia and abroad, particularly in the areas of ethics, social value, Indigenous historic heritage and archaeological sites conservation. Her early research was the first to demonstrate the entanglement of heritage, historical archaeology and nationalism in Australian cultural politics and she has extended this approach into other colonial contexts in Cyprus, Quebec, New Zealand and the USA. She has a long record of service to organisations including Australia ICOMOS, the Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology and the National Trust of Australia.
