Grounds for election

Dr Griffin Murray is a Lecturer in Archaeology at University College Cork. He previously worked as an Irish Research Council Research Fellow in Archaeology at UCC and in collections at the National Museum of Ireland and Kerry County Museum. His main area of research is Insular metalwork (AD 400–1200) within its European context, but he has also published on Insular-Scandinavian relations, Viking art, museum and antiquarian collections history, and on objects as agents of power and devotion within medieval society. His monograph on one of the most important European reliquary-crosses, the Cross of Cong, was published in 2014. He has also edited The Medieval Treasures of Co. Kerry (2010) and published 30 peer-reviewed papers in journals, books and conference proceedings. He is the current President, past Vice President, and Hon. Editor of the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society. He also served as Vice-President and Reviews Editor of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland.
