Grounds for election

Dr Dominik Maschek is Associate Professor of Roman Archaeology and Art at the University of Oxford, and Fellow of Wolfson College. He received a PhD in Classical Archaeology from the University of Vienna. After spending a year in Rome as a Fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, he moved to teach Classical Archaeology at Darmstadt. In 2015, he took up a Lectureship at the University of Birmingham, before joining the University of Oxford in 2018. His research covers a wide array of topics from Archaic Greece to the Roman Empire, with a special focus on Roman architecture, architectural decoration, urbanism, and sculpture. His latest book ‘Die römischen Bürgerkriege’ (‘The Roman Civil Wars’, published with Philipp von Zabern in 2018) deals with the complex role of the Civil War’s internecine violence in the shaping of Roman late republican architecture, art and material culture.
