Her PhD concerned the Iberian Upper Palaeolithic in Portugal. Since returning to Australia she has maintained her links with research in Portugal while rapidly developing her standing as the archaeozoologist of choice on major projects across Australia and in Papua New Guinea. These projects include the investigation of Australia's oldest known site of human habitation, dating back some 65,000 years as she published as a co-author in Nature in 2017. Tiina's professional trajectory has recently seen her invited to affiliate with the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany. She is also the President of the Australian Archaeological Association.
