Grounds for election

Tim Bolton is an outstanding manuscript expert and scholar, who has published extensively on medieval history, with particular reference to Anglo-Scandinavian interaction in the later Viking Period and on in the Middle Ages. He has published two books on Cnut the Great, and several detailed studies of manuscript sources, especially drawing attention to and exploring the importance of newly discovered items. His most spectacular find was a previously unknown copy of the 11th-century Encomium Emmae with the hitherto lost final section. He is an editor of 'The Heroic Age', an on-line journal, and an Honorary university Fellow at both Cardiff and Aberdeen.
