Grounds for election

Dr Carol Meale is a medieval scholar with interests in English literature and history, manuscript studies and book history, and art. She has held university appointments at York and Bristol, and since retiring as Reader in Medieval Studies at Bristol is now Senior Research Fellow in the English department there. She has edited five essay collections, including Women and Literature in Britain 1100-1500, (Cambridge University Press, 1993 and 96), and Readings in Medieval English Romance (D. S. Brewer, 1994). Her own many published essays include contributions to The Cambridge History of the Book in Britain, volume III, The Oxford History of the Book, and to collaborative volumes on medieval literature and its transmission and reception. Other articles, many dealing with the production and ownership of individual manuscripts, have appeared in journals such as The Library, Studies in Bibliography, English Manuscript Studies 1100-1700 and Arthurian Literature.
