Grounds for election

Dr Russell Palmer specialises in the archaeology of institutions, and captivity, and globalisation. He has published a monograph on the material culture and institutions of Malta from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries. His contributions to scholarship include the first systematic examination of post-medieval finds from Malta, which shed light on the periods of the Knights of St John and nineteenth-century British colonialism. He has set up the framework for Maltese post-medieval pottery studies, including the first typology for locally-produced earthenwares. His research has been published in leading journals, including the International Journal of Historical Sociology and the European Journal of Archaeology, and he has co-edited a special edition of the International Journal of Historical Archaeology on Colonial Institutions. Dr Palmer has held post-doctoral fellowships including at the University of Erfurt. He is currently an editorial assistant for the journal ANQ.
