Grounds for election

Professor Mary Flannery is a scholar of medieval literature and history. She has held posts in the Manuscripts Department of the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the English Departments of Queen Mary University of London, the University of Lausanne, and the University of Oxford. At present, she holds a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship at the University of Bern. Over the past decade, Professor Flannery has published five books and numerous articles on the literature and history of later medieval England (c. 1200 - 1500). Her most recent book, Practising shame: Female honour in later medieval England (2019), has been hailed as a timely and groundbreaking contribution to literary analysis, gender studies, and the history of emotion. Her research has been funded by the SNSF, the European Commission, and the Medieval Academy of America, among other international funding bodies.
