Chris Bragg is Head of Programming at the University of St Andrews Music Centre and Artistic Director of St Andrews Organ Week. He is both a performing musician, and a notable scholar on the history of the organ. He studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, and at the Conservatories of Amsterdam and Utrecht. His performing activities are focused on historic instruments, including the 1698 organ at Chaorce (France) and the 15th-century organ at Ostönnen (Germany), now thought to be the oldest playable in the world. A prolific writer and reviewer, he has published and lectured on historic organs in Scottish houses, and sound aesthetics in 18th-century Northern European organ building, and on the twentieth-century Organ Reform Movement. He is currently working a new online project in conjunction with Scotland's Churches Trust, 'Sowne of Organe', which seeks to document, aurally, visually and technically, surviving historic organs in Scotland.
