Grounds for election
Marina Papa-Sokal has worked in the field of archaeology for over 30 years. After earning her doctorate at the University of Florence with a thesis on Roman villas in Britain, she worked at the British Museum and later taught at the universities of London and New York. She has also held visiting positions at Harvard and Cambridge, and is currently an Honorary Lecturer at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. For the past 15 years her research has focused on the protection of world cultural heritage; and she published the first legislative history of the U.S. implementation of the UNESCO Convention 1970. Dr Papa-Sokal is a member of the American Institute of Archaeology and has served on the Cultural Properties and Legislation Committee and governing board of its New York society. She is also a member of the Lawyers’ Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation; advisor to the NGO Saving Antiquities for Everyone; and active heritage volunteer in her local community.
