Grounds for election

Dr. Geurds is an archaeologist of broad experience. His present focus is Nicaragua, but he has carried out research in the Mixteca Alta, Mexico, Honduras, Colombia, Panama, the Lesser Antilles, Peru, Chile, the U.S. and Europe. In addition to archaeology, he published a book in 2007 on research with modern indigenous communities in participatory archaeology (Grounding the Past). Until 2018, he was Academic Director of the Netherlands Research School of Archaeology. He has received research fellowships from Wolfson College, Oxford and from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. Since 2005, he has held 11 research grants from Oxford, Research England, National Geographic (3), Dumbarton Oaks, and funders in the Netherlands. He is active in research groups and symposia in Europe and the Americas. He is fluent in 6 languages. He has co-edited 5 books, the 3 most recent on Nicaraguan archaeology. He has published 19 book chapters, and 28 articles in journals.
