Grounds for election
Dr Grant is a specialist in the early modern period who works on discourses of love and the erotic, the Renaissance body, rape/sexual violence, 'pornography', and love letters. Her research sits at the intersections of the historical, the literary and the material: for instance work on manuscript love letters focuses upon the hand as bodily impress and symbol of power. Current projects include female-authored epithalamia and how they relate to the architecture of privacy and intimacy; and how the poetic trope of "love's wounds" works at the boundaries of bodies, emotions, and a culture of dissection. She has also written on theorising reception and modes of intertextuality, and book history. Her monograph 'Latin Erotic Elegy and the Shaping of Sixteenth Century English Love Poetry' (CUP, 2019) has been nominated for a RSA Phyllis Goodhart Gordan Book Prize, and she reviews regularly. She has taught at Royal Holloway, Birkbeck and Queen Mary, University of London.
