Dr Toby Parker is Director of Learning and Research at Haileybury and Imperial Service College in Hertfordshire, where he teaches and is College Archivist. He is also Honorary Archivist of the Kipling Society, Librarian of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs and a former Chairman of the Education Committee of the Worshipful Company of Arts Scholars. Toby has researched the architectural history and landscape of the East India College and the Haileybury estate and has edited two histories of Haileybury and one on the work of Repton and Wilkins. His other area of research is the collegiate gardens of Oxford University in the eighteenth century, for which he was awarded a residence at Dumbarton Oaks and on which he has written and lectured. His work has illuminated their organisation, operation and uses, identifying the technologies and skills used by the gardeners and those involved in the creation of the buildings, ornaments and furnishings.
